Harvest – Forest Church Style! At this time of year, we reflect on the bounty of the harvest. There will be many opportunities for us to come together and give thanks for the fruits of farmers’ labours, and at all of them a collection of produce and/or of money will be taken up. The gifts of money will be given to Beacon of Hope and the gifts of produce will go to the Foodbank. Those wishing to make these gifts are asked to bring produce in a small box and financial gifts in an envelope marked ‘harvest gift’.

Forest Church Harvest thanksgiving will be at 2.30pm on Sunday 27th September in All Saints’ churchyard.

Those attending are asked to dress for being outside and appropriately for the weather (whatever the weather, Forest Church goes ahead!). Please bring harvest gifts as described above, something to sit on, and a knife that can be used to cut fruit (not too sharp; just enough for the task). The service will be led by our Licensed Lay Minister, Catherine Graham, and everyone (whatever your age) is welcome.

Please pass the message on to everyone you think would like to attend. The Forest Church team will be applying all the relevant guidelines to keep us COVID-compliant, and numbers are not restricted as long as we all stay in our family groups.

Church Lads and Church Girls Brigade meeting will be resuming again shortly. Please contact John Dines on Johnnnyboy22@hotmail.co.uk or Facebook: @brigade.brightlingsea

This year, we have had quite a few new younger children but our older members have got less. We have spaces for all groups but especially in the older sections.

We have done various activities during the year and we all enjoyed a good night out at Clacton Pier Bowling. We took our members to camp in the Lake District in August and everyone had a great time. During the year we do a lot of craft items and the children make items for Mothering Sunday, Easter, Christmas. This year the children made a Snowman out of plastic cups for the Christmas Tree Festival, they also did bits for our tree entry.

At the moment, we are in the process of making up little baskets to take round to the homes in Brightlingsea for Easter. This is all part of their helping others badge. They help in Church and this goes towards ‘Me and God’ badge, it gives them all something to work towards and learn about God’s work and being there for us.

Normally The Brigade meets weekly on a Friday at St James’ Church (unless otherwise advertised) as follows:

Martins and Y Team: 5.30 – 7.30 pm (5 – 7 years). 6.30 (8-10 years)
Band: 7.30 – 8.30 pm
Juniors and Seniors: 8.30 – 9.30 pm (10 – 21 years)

We are always happy to see new members on Friday nights, so, if anyone wants to come and see what we do and joins they will always be welcome.

Parade Service (which takes the form of All-age worship) is suspended until the pandemic is over. It is usually on the first Sunday of each month (but not if that falls during school holidays). Those who can play an instrument are encouraged to join the group accompanying the hymns

Our Company first started in Brightlingsea in 1904 and closed in 1921 due to the First World War.  The present Company was started in 1959 and has continued to the present day. The ages that we work with are 5 years old to 21 years old.  The aim of the Brigade is to Extend the Kingdom of Christ among Lads and Girls and our motto is “Fight the Good Fight”.  We do badge work, drill and enjoy Fellowship, Faith and Fun.  Our officers are all CRB checked and have the members’ interests at heart.

For more information pick up a leaflet from inside the Church and see who we are and what we do.
