Ashes Burials
We offer a service for the burial of ashes in our beautiful, scenic Churchyard at All Saints Church Brightlingsea. This is for residents of Brightlingsea only, or a burial of ashes in an existing family grave in the Churchyard.
Your loved one’s ashes can be buried at any time after cremation, when you are ready for it.
Ashes may be buried in the casket or container they are in, provided it is bio-degradable. Alternatively ashes may be poured into the ground. We do not scatter ashes; they are always buried into consecrated ground.
Ashes can go into an existing family grave in the churchyard, or they can be buried or poured into a new grave plot in Section Q of the Churchyard, (the new field at the far end.) If desired, these plots can be given a small headstone or the name of your loved one can be added to an existing headstone by the stonemason. Alternatively ashes can be buried or poured into the Memorial garden, sometimes called the “Ash Lawn” , situated on the North side of the Church, overlooking the creek. A plaque with your loved one’s name and dates can be put on the wooden sleepers along the edge of the garden.
All burials are performed by a Priest or Minister, in the context of a Christian service, as they are buried in consecrated ground in a Christian burial site. The service usually takes about 10 minutes, and includes a Psalm, prayers and the Committal when your loved one is laid to rest. If the family wish, other readings or poems may be said. Objects such as flowers, shells, stones, letters may be placed in the plot at the time of burial as long as they are bio-degradable.
Plots in Q section and in the memorial Garden can be made double plots.
Flowers may be left at the site. Although the wildlife do like to eat them sometimes.
You may go to visit graves at any time, and enjoy the peace and tranquillity of this place where we believe God is always present.
