Prayer (talking to God and listening to God) is a vital part of the life of faith.
If you would like to learn more about prayer, you can contact us using the contact form on this website and we will be happy to help you. Or you could take a look at the resources here https://prayercourse.org
Prayer Meeting
We have a morning prayer group that meets each Tuesday in the Chancel.
Church Open!
St. James’ Church is open for prayer and candle lighting every day 9:00-5:00 and anyone is welcome to come in and spend some time in prayer. We also have accessible toilets with babychange as part of our welcome to the community.
Sometimes there are groups meeting (or, more occasionally, events like funerals and weddings). You are welcome to enter during a group – our groups are used to people coming in to use the toilets and pray or light candles. If there is a wedding or funeral taking place, these are usually around 45 minutes to an hour in length: please use your discretion about whether or not to enter at these times.
Every Wednesday morning we have a service at 10:00: you can still come in and light a candle during this if you wish, you will be welcome, whether you choose to join in the service or just pop in for a bit. Every Saturday we host a community cafe from 9:00-12:00 and again, though the church will look busy and full, you are still warmly welcome to enter to pray or light a candle – and you can get a drink and snack too!
Here for you
We are your church and here for you. There are places for you to leave written prayer requests and know that the ministry team will read them and join our prayers with yours. If you would like to speak to someone about anything that is on your heart, please do make contact with the ministry team. If what is troubling you is urgent, email or call Rev. Caroline Beckett on revcarolinebeckett@gmail.com or 07454244914, knock on the Vicarage door (next to the Church, just off the car park) or email Rev. Judith Gibbons on revjudithgibbons@outlook.com or 07889995359. (Please don’t leave voicemail for Rev. Caroline as it does not always reach her properly!)
If something significant has happened in your life and you would like to find a way to mark the moment, to mourn, to celebrate, to give thanks or to move from one part of your life to another, do contact us to discuss how we can help.
